From Aladdin’s Cave to The Management Shift Space

This quote has been guiding my work for many years. I have never been a traditional academic that would work only on theory that is not used by anyone. I always wanted that my research and related models, theories, framework and tools are implemented in practice to make a positive difference for the real world of business, and most importantly to make a difference for people working in these businesses. This is my mission and my life purpose – to help as many leaders and organisations to achieve transformation and create happier, more purposeful, more humane workplaces that are also more profitable. And in this process create and spread ripples that will make this world a better place.


To ensure my research and ideas are implemented in practice and I keep spreading those ripples, in addition to being an academic, I also became an executive educator, management consultant, coach and entrepreneur.

When I launched ‘The Management Shift’ book, website and The Management Shift Consulting Ltd business about 6 years ago, I started creating big ripples globally though my speaking, writing, training and consulting work. At the same time, I kept researching and creating new models, assessment tools, programmes, e-learning platform, educational games, learning toolkits etc. And not many people knew about all this. 


The Eureka moment came when one of my friends said “You have been keeping all these jewels you created in Aladdin’s Cave, hidden from the world. You need a shop window so everyone can see and use what you created for their benefit”. Soon after that, I spoke to another friend (both are executive coaches) who said “when are you going to make all these amazing things you created available to the world? You are not fully living your purpose if you only create things but do not let many people use them”. 

That was the moment when I realised we needed a new website, a website that will make all our Programmes and products easily accessible to all types of clients that we serve.


Our evidence based development programmes, tools and resources have been created for Executives, Directors, Managers, Professionals, Educators, Coaches and Venture Capitalists to shift their thinking at an individual and organisational levels. Grounded in decades of interdisciplinary research, our programmes, tools and resources help individuals and teams accelerate to new levels of leadership and collaborative working styles. Participants of our Programmes have reported experiencing new levels of energy, less stress, an increase in productivity and motivation, better communication and engagement, to name a few benefits. At organisational level, our clients reports increased revenues and profit, a growth in staff members, better talent retention, less absenteeism, a shift to people based culture etc. 


My team and I worked hard during the last few months, rebranded The Management Shift brand, brought all the jewels from the Aladdin’s Cave to one digital space and today we are proudly launching www.themanagementshiftspace.com!


One area in this space provides access to The Management Shift Membership with learning resources, insights and research evidence, with various videos, exercise books, case studies and articles. Level 1 Membership is free and I hope many of you will join The Management Shift community as a member. We will be also providing membership with premium (Level 2) and bespoke (Level 3) content in due course. Over the past years, companies have made a unified effort to change their culture, to improve employee productivity, wellbeing and revenue. However, determining whether or not the culture change has been successful, can be difficult. Business leaders are now realising that they must readjust their company’s culture in order to survive in a drastically changed world, since the outbreak of COVID-19. Many organisations continue to have issues comprehending the significant connection between corporate transformation and culture. Acknowledging that a cultural framework is essential for holistic transformation does not come naturally for the majority of leaders. It is important to remember that ‘Culture eats strategy for breakfast’, as Peter Drucker famously said. If your company’s culture is resistant to change, no amount of top-down strategy will make a difference. The only way to achieve lasting success is by transforming the culture along with the business. Traditional ways of thinking and working need to be replaced by new, more innovative approaches. This can be difficult, as old ways are often comfortable and familiar, however it is necessary if the organisation wishes to grow and thrive in the future. There are five levels of company culture, as identified in the 5-Level Management Shift Model . At Level 1, the culture is static, toxic, and inflexible. Employees are disempowered and scared. This can not only stifle creativity and innovation, which are essential for success in today's economy, and it is also detrimental for wellbeing of employees. At Level 2, employees do the minimum they can get away with, just to for a paycheck. At Level 3, the culture is controlled and inflexible. Employees can make some decisions on their own but must still follow the strict rules set by management. A company that is stuck at Level 3 or lower is unable to adjust quickly enough to changes in the market or society. As a result, it may become obsolete or irrelevant. A positive, adaptive company culture would be operating at Levels 4 and 5. This type of culture is characterised by trust and respect amongst employees, as well as a focus on results rather than procedures. Employees can make decisions quickly and efficiently, without having to go through multiple layers of management. This allows the company to be more agile and responsive to changes in the market. Organisational culture is a reflection of leader’s consciousness. Leaders with the right mindset, with ethical, conscious, caring, compassionate and authentic behaviour will help create psychologically safe caring culture that will easily attract talent and grow profit. Autocratic, egoistic, toxic leaders will create an organisation with unhealthy culture, and not many people would want to work in such organisation unless they are desperate and have no other choice.
